Peter and Sergei (Alfred Molina) are two soviet sailors on shore leave.
Despite knowing minimal English, they enjoy their time in Liverpool and meet
Elaine and Theresa. Peter falls in love with Elaine, but has to leave the
next day as their ship is departing. Elaine writes a letter to the soviet
official Leonid Brezhnev, asking for his help in reuniting the lovers.
